Little Hearts Doily Crochet-Along question

I have a couple questions.
1) When reading the pattern, am I to assume that on the first row, after the chain, I read it left to right. The second row would be right to left and so on?

2) When view the picture on the direction page, it has a notch in the middle, but when I follow the directions, mine is straight across. I've ripped 3 times and redid it 2 times and it is the same. What am I doing wrong?

When I look at the gallery of this project, most people have the notch in the middle, I see 2 people that have theirs straight across on the top and bottom.

I've crochet on and off for 40 years, but never did the filet crochet.

Thanks,
Julie

Hi Jbg,

It doesn't matter how you read the pattern cos it is a mirror image of 2 halves. So all you have to do is work the pattern from the edge to the middle and repeat the same stitches in the reverse sequence. Hope you understand what I mean.

I do not understand what you mean by "notch in the middle" so can't help on that, sorry.

I read the rest of the directions and found that in the last lesson, it shows how to do the short rows to the beginining and end. So, I answered my question before it got posted.

Thanks

Hi Julie,

you will get the notch in the midle in lesson 6, when you crochet the short rows. For now, it's straigth on the bottom. And you do read left to right, then rigth to left and so on. Always change directions. Also, if you have a pattern like the little hearts, where the pattern is a mirow image, it really das not make a difference.
